About
Local Insight Hub is for curious readers who want to understand the places they move through, not just pass by them. We look at the visible clues in streets, buildings, maps and landscapes, and explain how to read them without pretending that every detail has a single certain meaning.
What we look at
Our subjects include street layouts, building forms, map conventions, landscape features and traces of earlier uses. We favour questions a reader can carry on a walk or return to while looking at a map: why does this road bend, what does this old boundary suggest, or how does a map direct attention?
Who it is for
The site is for general readers, whether you are exploring a familiar neighbourhood or studying a place from afar. No specialist vocabulary is required. When a term helps, we explain it; when a clue is ambiguous, we say so rather than turning a possibility into a fact.
How we approach a place
We separate what can be observed from what is inferred, and use careful language when evidence is limited. The aim is not to identify every building or settle local questions from a photograph. It is to make looking more attentive and interpretation more thoughtful.
